More Europe Amsterdam debate
Beyond markets: culture and creative industries in the EU’s external relations
A high level More Europe debate on the role of culture and creative industries in the EU's external relations.
Keynote speakers will be Alexander Rinnooy Kan, President of the Social and Economic Council of The Netherlands and Marietje Schaake, Member of the European Parliament, Member of the Committee of Foreign Affairs, and Member of the Committee of Culture and Education..
Culture and creative industries bring added value to the EU’s external relations. Cultural relations are drivers for social and economic development. Yet when the EU is defining its strategies for positioning itself on the global stage, culture and creative industries are not included.
This debate will engage high-level speakers to discuss the role and potential of culture and creative industries in the external relations strategies of the EU and its Member States. They will share strategies and models for promoting and developing culture and creative industries in the context of external cultural relations, as well as discussing how to embed culture within the EU’s external policy in a meaningful and effective way.
